Mr. Michael Melvin, Principal

Michael Melvin grew up on Long Island, New York and began his teaching career as an International ESOL Teacher at Alpha Language School in Hamamatsu, Japan in 2002.  For the past 15 years, he has been with the Osceola County School District.  He was a teacher and literacy coach at Discovery Intermediate School (2012-2014); an ELA Resource Teacher/Project Manager for Osceola Testing Platforms for Osceola County Middle School Curriculum and Instruction (2014-2015); and the Dean of Students/Testing Coordinator at Narcoossee Middle (2015-2021).

 

When he is not working, Mr. Melvin spends his time camping, hiking, fishing, cooking, and travelling.

I received my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida and my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. From 2011 to 2023, I served as a science teacher, STEM teacher, and Dean at Celebration K8. These roles provided me with a wealth of experience in fostering a positive and innovative learning environment.

 

Currently, I am the Student Services Assistant Principal, and am dedicated to listening, talking to, and helping our Jaguars achieve their potential. My goal is to support every student in overcoming challenges and reaching their academic and personal goals. I am committed to holding students accountable, reteaching expectations, and ensuring that each student has the resources and support they need to succeed. I strive to make each student feel welcomed, valued, and empowered. I look forward to serving and leading each and every Jaguar and supporting every Jaguar family.

Ms. Yahaira Diaz-Morales, Assistant Principal

Yahaira Diaz-Morales has held the following positions: Teacher at Kissimmee Middle School (2015 – 2019) and District Resource Teacher for Osceola Schools (2022 – 2024). She received a bachelor's degree in General Science from the University of Puerto Rico and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from American College of Education.

Ms. Miller is a dedicated educational leader with over 20 years of experience serving students, families, and educators. She has worked as a teacher (Horizon Middle School), district specialist (Osceola Middle School Science), principal (Kingsley Middle School), and assistant principal (Westside K8 School), bringing a wealth of knowledge in curriculum, instructional leadership, professional development, and school improvement to KMS.

Throughout her career, Ms. Miller has been committed to fostering safe, inclusive, and engaging school environments where every student can thrive. She is passionate about supporting teachers, enhancing student achievement, and strengthening partnerships between school and community. She is excited to continue building on the success of students and staff at KMS while contributing to the positive culture of the school and community.
