KMS Families,

We’ve made it to our first three-day weekend! I hope your children enjoy a well-deserved extra day of rest after an eventful week at KMS.

This past week, we successfully completed our first round of state testing and hosted our first learning walk with district resource teachers.

Testing went very well. Most students took their FAST Reading exam on Tuesday and their FAST Math exam on Friday. Students who were absent will be called in soon for a makeup session.

The FAST exams are given in August, December, and May. These assessments help us monitor student progress and adjust instruction throughout the year. I’m excited to share that our percentage of proficient students in both reading and math has already increased from PM1 last year—an excellent start!

Next Friday, we will celebrate students who scored proficient or showed growth with a dress-down day. Recognizing effort and progress after important exams is one of the ways we keep students motivated.

Last year, Mr. Barron transitioned from teaching math to serving as the lead teacher in one of our self-contained units. The new unit is off to a fantastic start, and we want to thank Mr. Barron for such a strong beginning to the school year!

Ms. Cardona has been instrumental in ensuring a smooth start to the school year. She manages ISS, supports transportation, and handles the ongoing task of printing replacement IDs for students. Thank you, Ms. Cardona, for being such a valuable member of our team!

We currently have several renovations underway at the school, and I am thrilled to share that our new digital marquee has been installed and is up and running! Now, as you drive past the school, you’ll be able to see important dates, upcoming events, and celebrations displayed.
